The mayor-elect of the Welsh town of Haverfordwest, Rev. Christopher Gillham (left), has described Hezbollah terrorists as "freedom fighters" and drawn criticism from political leadership in the National Assembly. Gillham also said he would have joined Hezbollah had he been born in Lebanon.
Nick Bourne, the leader of the Welsh Conservatives condemned Gillham's comments on Hezbollah on Friday and demanded an immediate apology.
"These comments will offend people of all faiths and none throughout Wales. It is clear even from his own admission that the Rev. Gillham is condoning the Hezbollah organization," Bourne said. "He should make an immediate apology for his remarks, not least to the people of Haverfordwest. His role as a representative of Wales, particularly overseas, means he must avoid inflammatory language of this nature."
