During a trip to Doha, Palestinian PM Ismail Haniyeh was able to secure payments for some 40,000 Palestinian education staff for several months at a cost of $22.5 million per month, as well as a promise from Qatar that it would study a possible donation of $7 million per month for the Palestinian health sector.
Haniyeh said a Qatari delegation would travel to the Palestinian territories in 10 days to discuss setting up an Islamic bank with a $50 million capital that would be increased to $100 million to finance development in the territories. The Gulf Arab state will also build a sports city in the Palestinian territories, Haniyeh said, but gave no details.
