Israel's National Security Council Counterterrorism Headquarters, a branch of the Prime Minister's Office, has warned Israelis to avoid the Indian state of Goa for a few weeks due to concerns about a possible attack by al-Qaeda. Many Israelis celebrate the end of compulsory army service by taking extended trips, often to India. Young Israelis who discovered Goa and the trance music that originates from there return in December and January for trance parties. Security sources believe the large number of Israelis in Goa has not gone unnoticed by al-Qaeda.
