Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has called for the need to recognize the role of Palestinian women who are increasingly on the frontline in the conflict with Israel. He said Palestinian women "contribute by sacrificing their lives, sometimes, in the fight against the Israeli occupation, a heroism that they demonstrate daily in their efforts to provide a decent life and education for their children," in his address read at the international conference of solidarity with Palestinian women.
That certainly is true, Palestinian women are being put at the front lines... as human shields for the benefit of Hamas. Back in November, Palestinian women were called upon by a Hamas radio station to serve as a human shield to protect dozens of armed gunmen in a Beit Hanoun mosque, including several senior wanted Palestinians who headed the Qassam rocket infrastructure in northern Gaza.
The mosque was surrounded by Israeli forces who were demanding that those inside come out when the women came between the soldiers and the mosque. An Israeli military spokesman said soldiers were firing at armed men who had joined the women's protest. One died and ten were wounded. The gunmen inside the mosque escaped under cover of the Palestinian women outside, the IDF said, because there weren't enough infantrymen to block the protesters from approaching the building, and troops didn't want to shoot into the crowd.
