MediaLine reports that Palestinian PM Ismail Haniyeh will relinquish his position under an agreement reached to form a unity government. A replacement has been selected, whose name will first be presented to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas before being made public.
But underscoring the reality that no deal is complete until it's complete, a meeting between Haniyeh and Abbas has been planned for Monday, but the news conference set to follow has been delayed. Terms of the agreement previously announced were that technocrats would fill the cabinet, each one with a declared loyalty to Hamas, Fatah or other smaller factions. There will be more Hamas loyalists, enabling that faction to control the outcome of voting. The prime minister is to be acceptable to both Fatah and Hamas.
