Israeli PM Ehud Olmert and FM Tzipi Livni have appointed Sallai Meridor, the former chairman of the Jewish Agency, as Israel's next ambassador to the United States. According to his résumé, this will be his first diplomatic posting. However, he has worked previously with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a policy adviser charged with establishing political relations with foreign representatives, principally of the United States. He was also a member of the Israeli delegations at the Madrid, Washington and Lisbon peace conferences between 1990-1992. He's been rumored to be the next ambassador for some time now, at least going back to May of this year. Meridor's brother, Dan Meridor, is a scion of the Likud party and a former cabinet minister.
