MediaLine reports that NATO has signed a cooperation agreement with Israel under which it will provide support for NATO patrols in the Mediterranean Sea. In 2004, NATO began talks with Israel and six Arab nations aimed at bolstering the alliance's presence in the Middle East. The pact with Israel represents the first fruit of that initiative. Israel will be providing support for counter-terrorism patrols by NATO ships. On the Arab side, an idea to establish a NATO academy in Jordan appears to be the most promising effort to work with NATO.
