Israeli forces intercepted a shipment of high-grade explosives that were smuggled through a Gaza-Israel passage and headed for the West Bank, the military said Wednesday. Soldiers found the explosives hidden in a cage after smugglers managed to get them through the heavily guarded Karni crossing. The IDF said the explosives, 13 lbs. of TNT, were headed for a Palestinian in the West Bank and were meant for a terrorist attack against Israelis. TNT has more than twice the destructive capability of the homemade explosives that have been the hallmark of Palestinian terrorism to date.
UPDATE 10/26 @ 09:25: Security sources tell us that the weapons-grade TNT intercepted at the Karni crossing from Gaza to Israel was being transported in a metal container used to transfer goods. Later that day, police arrested three Israelis suspected of involvement in the smuggling. They told investigators that a Palestinian working at Karni had coordinated the passage of the container with the explosives. On the night between October 22 and October 23, security forces arrested a resident of Tulkarm suspected of being the intended recipient of the smuggled explosives.
