Coalition naval forces in the Persian Gulf have been deployed to counter a possible seaborne threat to Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura oil terminal, which is the world's biggest offshore oil facility, the Britain's Royal Navy said on Friday. As of now, crude oil exports are continuing as normal. The Royal Navy issued the warning in a statement to merchant shipping, calling it a precautionary measure after receiving intelligence of a possible threat.
"Coalition, Saudi and Bahraini units in the general vicinity are focusing on presence and deterrence in the approaches to Ras Tanura," the statement said. "Merchant vessels calling at Ras Tanura have been asked to keep a listening watch and to respond as directed to any instructions from Coalition warships."
