Israeli Maj. Gen. Udi Adam, who was pushed aside in the middle of the war in Lebanon, announced his resignation on Wednesday, the army said. Adam, who was the head of the northern command responsible for securing the Israel-Lebanon border, asked to leave his post "as soon as possible," the army said in a statement.
Israeli media reported that Adam had several disagreements with Lt. Gen. Dan Halutz, the army chief, during the war. Military analysts said Adam was seen as too cautious and hesitant and Halutz appointed Maj. Gen. Moshe Kaplinski, the deputy army chief, to command the war while the fighting was still raging.
MK Amihai Ayalon, a leading member of the Labor party, said his party leader and current Minister of Defense Amir Peretz -- widely lambasted for his handling of the war -- should also follow Adam's example. "Amir Peretz should change jobs. General Adam should not be the only one to pay the price of the shortcomings," he said.
