While there may not be a connection to the bombing of Lebanese airports, it is now coming across the wires that Israel is concerned at the possibility that Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorists holding two Israeli soldiers may try to transfer them from Lebanon to Iran. "We have concerns that they could be taken out of Lebanon to Iran. Those concerns have a basis," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev.
UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is sending a three-person team led by his political adviser Vijay Nambiar to the Middle East to urge all parties to exercise restraint and help defuse the major crisis in the region, a spokesman said on Thursday.
The team will first visit Cairo to meet with Egyptian officials and consult with Arab League foreign ministers meeting there on Saturday, the spokesman said. The team is then expected to head to Israel, the Palestinian territories, Lebanon, Syria and possibly other destinations "as needed," the spokesman said.
