Earlier this week, Kazakhstan's Supreme Court upheld a lower court decision denying party registration to the Alga (Forward) party. The next day, the foreign ministers of Iran and Kazakhstan pledged to deepen ties between the two countries. Iran, already an important player in the Middle East, is poised to become the dominant influence in central Asia.
