The Security Council could give Iran two chances to comply with demands to curb its nuclear activity before imposing sanctions, John Bolton said on Thursday.
"This is a calibrated, gradual, reversible approach," said Bolton. "Then we will consider the next step, which may well be a Chapter 7 resolution that imposes sanctions of some kind," he continued. In the words of Sec. Rice, "a Chapter 7 resolution essentially gives the U.N. or the Security Council the ability to compel a state to act. It can say that there would be consequences if actions are not taken."
Bolton also reiterated the U.S. was considering tactics outside from the Security Council to apply pressure on Tehran.
