VOA reports that China and Iran appear ready to go ahead with a multi-billion dollar deal for the state-owned China Petrochemical Corporation to develop western Iran's Yadavaran oil field. In return, China will buy 10 million tons of liquefied natural gas each year for 25 years. Analysts say the deal would test China's role as a responsible stakeholder in the region and the world.
Officials say that a delegation of top economic policy makers is heading to Iran next month to negotiate prices and details of the Yadavaran deal, likely before the scheduled March 6 IAEA meeting in Vienna.
