Talks in Brussels on Monday about Iran have ended unsuccessfully as
a British envoy reports that Iran presented no major new proposals at talks over Western concerns about its nuclear ambitions. "We didn't hear anything new that we hadn't heard already," British diplomat John Sawers told reporters after two hours of talks with Javad Vaeedi, deputy head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. "We will pass on the information to our foreign ministers. They will make the final decision on whether the matter will go to the U.N. Security Council," he added.
French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy emerged from the same meeting calling for the Security Council to get involved in the dispute over Iran's nuclear ambitions, saying EU-Iran talks had hit a dead end.
