The good news is that Mr. Blair is closer to the truth than most. But the bad news is that he's still embracing fatally flawed hopes for peace with demons who do NOT share his egalitarianism.

"We will continue to do all we can to halt the hostilities. But once that has happened, we must commit ourselves to a complete renaissance of our strategy to defeat those that threaten us." - Blair

Mr. Blair is stll more than a few downs short of a goal on this. We see from the 2nd sentence here that he's got everything backwards. We can't have peace BEFORE we eliminate the threat. We don't need a "renaissance of our strategy"; we need to adopt and adhere to a vigorous unappologetic no-holds-barred take-no-prisoners campaign of extermination of the bad actors. ANYTHING short of that will fail.

After the Jihadi madmen are gone, and I mean that literally, there will be peace becaue THEY are ALWAYS the ones who initiate the violence. Expecting to attain a phoney "peace" followed by efforts to get them to "understand" or "accommodate" our side ignores the fact that THEY DON'T GIVE A FIGS BOTTOM about our "values," which they hate more than life itself, is delusional.

His speach sounds good if you don't really think about it, because it's loaded with code-words for appeasement and red-flags signalling uncertainty. He's right that this is all about "values." But, Mr. Blair, you have to have them, and they have to pass the tests they are being put to. To paraphrase one of your best and brightest lliterary giants, 'Indecission, by any other name, will still spell defeat'.

Note added in proof of my assertion above that Tony (peace-in-our-time-at-any-price) Blair has the cart before the horse...

"Tony Blair today decided to delay his summer holiday for a few days to help secure a United Nations resolution that would call for an IMMEDIATE CESSATION OF HOSTILITIES [my emphasis] in the Israel-Lebanon conflict."

So much for Blair's rhetorical "renaissance."
